About
Hi, I’m Bonnie - the sewist, quilter, and pattern designer behind Almanac Sewn. I’m fascinated by the natural world and our human relationship with it: this led me to pursue a degree in geology and establish a home with my husband and two children in the wonderland of Portland, Oregon.
I’ve also long loved sewing. My mother taught me a basic running stitch and how to sew a button, and I still use the little blue Kenmore Mini Ultra she bought me in high school. Back then, I experimented with thrift alterations and appliqué; now, I make garments for my family and traditionally pieced quilts.
My observations as a geologist, backpacker, birder, and gardener inspire my modern quilt designs. I use field-matched color palettes and abstract geometry to capture the unique charm of the Pacific Northwest. I think of the patterns and resources I create as downloadable teachers - they should be easy to follow and pleasant to spend time with! I look forward to learning alongside you in this remarkable craft balanced by beauty and function.
